Good question. Must be on a learn-as-you-go program in that service department.

That's a lot of lube, my Fat takes about a quarter.
The old bikes without the zirt the interval for pulling them and packing was (If I remember right) twenty thousand miles, so you should be ok.
But you are right to be concerned about the dealer not doing it.
Maybe they don't want to get your bike all greasy and have to wash it afterwards;-)

The service manual says to do it at 10k then 20k so I'm hoping its alright.
Not sure if the dealer really cares about if the bike gets dirty or not, they are pretty good about washing it after every service.
Have to get crackin on the rest of the service now, going to tackle the belt Tensioner next, everything after that seems pretty easy to do, this will be my first service I have done. wish me luck...

Yes, that is the recommended now, I was talking about before the zirts were used.
Doing it yourself is the only way to make sure it is done right.
Just take your time, and don't be afraid to ask questions, we have all been there.

You need to remember what bearings these are also, they are not rotating at a thousand+ rpm, these are just lazily going back and forth, in my humble opinion the grease it more to keep them from rusting as much as lubrication.
On the belt most problems are from getting the belt too tight. To tight is bad for the bearing in the output shaft, and causes the belt/pulleys to wear faster.

Here we go again and again making a federal case out of nothing.
Pump a little grease it in and ride. Unless your doing wheel stands with it you will not live long enough to wear out the bearing. Unless of course you follow internet hype and screw with it until you screw it up.
With all the miles I have put on an HD the worst necking bearing issue I have ever had was having to have it adjusted under warranty at 10K.
You don't need special marine grease or bubbads super bad ninja grease. Just some plain old heavy grease. If you decide to pump it till it runs out fine clean it off on the hot days if if runs and ride.
Sad all these HD's sitting on the side of the road with wore out neck bearing what a shame.

That's rude. This guy is a newbie, and concerned about doing his own work. It's smart *** comments like this that keep people from asking anymore questions.
