i had my dealer do mine just so they would go over the factory and their work after a break in period. I have done all of my own since.

Did it my self as per the manual. There is more to maintenance than changing fluids. Keep all you receipts and log what you did and when you did it. You should never have any problems getting warranty work done unless they can prove what you did causedthe problem.

Good luck and happy wrenching.

There is a lot to do on the 1000. Not just fluid change. If you are mechanically inclined and will do everything.

Get a service manual and go by the checklist.

I let the dealer do mine.

Iagree and do the same, do all my service work from theget go. I prefer to work on my bike myself to prevent scratches. Most tecks will not treat it like you do, I don't like taking chances that I will get acarless one. I also keep a log & reciepts and go by the service manual. Besides it is cheaper to do it your self.

Take Care,

My 1000 mile service was included with my bike so I had the dealer do it. But get a service manual and do the rest yourself. Just make sure you save all your receipts for oil & parts to validate your warranty. In HD's perspective the 1000 mile oil changes are critical so make sure they are done. Engine oil, trans & primary chaincase.

Ride safe..KB

I had the dealer do the 1K.I was not happy with their work.I found loose fastners and the positive battery cover was not in place.
I know it may seem like little things, but having to pay $395 it was a rip off.
Needless to say,I do my own service now.

Mine will be done by the dealer. It was part of my sales contract. After that I will do the5k's, and they will do the 10k's.

I have my doubts they do all the things required in the service. I do it myself and know it was done and it keeps me up to date on the condition of the bike.
