is my 1993 sportster 1200 primary oil level too high??
Hello, i just bought a used 1993 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200. i used to wrench on BSAs but don't know a thing about Harleys, so i've been trying to get to know it a bit. I was checking the primary oil level today, by looking into a 2 inch inspection hole, which i assume must also be the clutch adjustment access port, on the primary cover, and i noticed that the oil was filled all the way up to the edge of this hole so that with the bike leaned on its side-stand the oil would spill out.
After searching and watching a couple videos (not my year sportster) about primary oil changing that showed different primary side access covers like the traditional 6 inch "derby cover", the level to which they instruct the user to fill the oil would be well below where it is sitting inside mine, but the primary case itself on mine seems to be built differently and i'm trying to figure out if that is the reason that the fill level is so different, or was mine overfilled by the previous owner?
Can anyone help me with this? thank you very much, in advance! -Brent
