Oil brands
Is there any brands of oil you all use OTHER than the Harley brand? I was running RotellaT in my other bikes. I know you need to make sure it doesn't have the friction modifiers in them.

You don`t need to worry about friction modifiers in oil used in a Harley engine, since it does not share the same oil with the clutch, also, 20w50 grade oils don`t use friction modifiers, since they are not in the energy conserving group of oil.
You will read a zillion posts on why you must use very overpriced motorcycle synthetic oil...
Strange thing is, you won`t find any posts about a Harley engine wearing out prematurely due to not using the fancy expensive oil...
You don`t need to spend 10+ dollars per quart on motor oil.
Any auto 20w50 will be fine in a Harley engine, but if you are going to buy conventional motor oil, you might as well get the motorcycle specific oil that has the JASO MA rating, since it is about the same price as regular car oil...
That way you can use it in your primary if you choose to, and also any other motorcycle you may have.
Last year Auto Zone had a big sale on Castrol and Valvoline conventional motorcycle oil, 1.99 per quart, I bought enough to last for several years...And since it has the JASO MA rating, it can also be used in my old Honda 900f that shares engine oil with the transmission and clutch.

Post above is right on the money.
I use rotella in my primary because of the JASO spec but other than there you can use whatever you want.
Those over priced v-twin oils are meant for shared sump bikes, not Harleys. You can use em if you like,it's your money
