Water in Tranny fluid?? Help!!
Ok, I have a 05 Softail standard with 7600 miles. I bought it about a month ago, the guy said it had about 1000 miles on a fresh oil change. Well I decide after about 1000 miles id go ahead and change the fluids, I find that the tranny fluid is white, not milky or cloudy, its white. So i change the fluids put about 200 miles on it checked the fluids and its good ,then I washed it today, checked the tranny fluid with the dipstick and its milky looking. My buddys told me not to wash it with a pressure washer so i didnt, just a regular water hose. Ive already done some looking around on here and from what im seeing the areas that could let water in are the vent hose and the dipstick o-ring. I check the vent hose and it is in the position of an upsidedown J, sitting at about the 1 oclock position, so im thinking it probaly couldnt get in there (but someone tell me if im wrong). the dipstick o-ring looks good. I dont ride short trips,(about 30 miles one way to work and its about 45-50 degrees in the morning when i leave hear lately), i also heard that can cause condensation to get in there. Is there anywhere else water could get into the tranny? Im almost 100% it got in there when i washed it..thanks for any advise or help.

Replace your dipstick o-ring. Then check where the clutch cable comes in. The condensation story is BS. You are getting water in from washing. You can always put a piece of duct tape over the dipstick when you wash it too. If your trans has a top cover check those bolts to be sure they are tight.

You might have still have some in it from before and it just change the new oil!!I wouldnt think the vent could let in that much with water hose so im with who ever said check the top cover gasket! The cable gasket probly would not let that much in either!

O-ring would be my guess. Condensation is a possibilty however a 30 mile ride would certainly get the tranny fluid up to temp and evaporation would begin. Unless it isn't venting. Then yes the humidity would evap but the water wOuld re-form
