1,000 mile change for FLSTCI
I have been reading all of the posts under this thread and I am confused as hell. Can I get one of you veterans to set me straight. I want to go with synthetic oil when I change. From what I have read, that should be the way to go in the heat of Texas. What about the other fluids. Stick with HD for primary and trans. As I am new, I don't want to screw this beautiful machine up quite yet. Please recommend a specific brand/type that will not void my warranty. I'm cool with sticking with the HD stuff, even if it is a little more expensive.
Thanks.

BTW, this forum is great. It may just make me a do-it-yourselfer yet!!

You'll probably get about as many opinions as posts on this question, so here's mine. I run Mobil 1 V-twin 20W-50 in the crankcase and primary and either synthetic 75W-90 gear oil or Redline Shockproof Heavy in the transmission. I change the fluids every 2,500 miles.

I don't know why you didn't have many posts, but the main thing is, synthetic will help an engine run smoother and cooler which equates to longer life. Stick with the HD recommended viscosities for the engine and primary and run only gear oil in the transmission, even though your Harley shop may say you can run Syn3.

Wow, thought I would get more responses than this....Must be due to the "sub-heading"....

Mobil 1 15w-50 gold cap for engine, Ford/Dexron/Mercon ATF for primary, Castrol Syntec 75w-90 gear oil for tranny. Sub some 10w-40 0r 10w-30 for your primary. The ATF works as good as any other primary fluid, but I can't recommend it for a bike under warranty.

Oil types or brands will not void your warrantee if they are other than HD brand. If you are concerned about the warrantee use the HD brand and ease your mind. The only way your warrantee would be effected is if there was a failure of a component that the oil lubricated, but I doube that the dealer would even know what oil was in the engine. As long as the oil you choose is equal to or better than the manufacturers specs, they can't say anything to yo.
I like to use Mobil 1 V Twin in the engine, HD primary oil in the chain case and redline shockproof heavy in the trans.
Above all use a GEAR OIL in the trans, not SYN 3 , that's an engine oil 20/50 to be exact, not best for gears.
Check this out in regards to warrantee https://www.hdforums.com/m_76699/tm.htm
