Exactly... weird and scary snake oil. Go with RedLine or as Michele Bachmann would say about Obamacare: "Everyone will die"!

Then how come I'm not at the top of the heap - rolling in dough??? I've been buying Amsoil for a looooong time.

No I don't sell it to make money - just to help my chapter members save some money. I sell it at my cost.

Other people do make GREAT motorcycles too.

I wasn't refering to Amsoil. I was saying if there was a product - any kind of product - that would make your vehicle, TV, toaster, etc. perform better would you not buy it because of the way it was marketed?

They do guarantee that their oils WILL NOT HARM YOUR ENGINE and that some of their products will increase your milage. IN WRITING

I don't hear anywhere near as much Amsoil BS(as you call it)as I do Mobil1 BS. For pete sake they even advertise on TV - Amsoil doesn't. They don't need to.

I'm not going to stoop to your level and bad mouth Mobil1 or any other oil. It's sad that you think you "have to put up with Amsoil"

Bottom line is whatever oil somebody uses - that's the best oil - TO THEM.

As Shredding Rubber said. I wouldn't hesitate to use RedLine, Mobil1, RP, QS, or Penzoil.

Try reading the additive package for Amsoil vs Mobil1 sometime. That's one of the reasons I like Amsoil better.

These oil posts don't do a damn bit of good. They're not going to change anyones mind on which oil they are going to use. I use Amsoil - you use Mobil1 - we are not going to change are we?

A few years back Consumer Reports was one of the participants in a huge study of engine oil conducted on NY taxi cabs. The other funding sponsors were large fleet operators. Something like 400 cabs were involved in the study. They all ran a specific oil changed at a specific frequency over their entire life and then had the engine torn apart and examined after a specified interval.

The findings indicated no difference in wear been synthetic and natural oils IF the natural oil was changed at the manufacturer recommend interval. They also found synthetic could go 2.5 times longer than the manufacturer recommended interval for oil changes with no ill effects. They discovered there was no advantage to more frequent oil changes than recommended by the manufacturer. They were unable to detect differences in performance between brand name oils other than the longevity issues with synthetic vs natural. The only difference they did detect was that ultra cheap, no name oils did not use additives and thus did not preform as well as brand name oils. Their conclusion was stick to brand name oils but ignore the brand as it is all marketing.

Been there, done that.... Running Amsoil now and would never change back! But as mentioned, I also feel the variety of oils out there are all pretty good, hell they have to be to compete in today's market.

In reality there is a bigger difference in oil filters that there is in brand name oils.

Default Marketing!

Hey now, really didn't want to start flinging **** on the barn door but had a valid question. Why and really Why is Amsoil so hard to get locally. I don't understand the marketing bullshit. If I had a great product I would want it readily available to anyone and everyone so my sales would skyrocket= money! I think it just a mystery that will never be solved within our ranks as the real reason why. I do feel like writing them with a challenge to change the way they do business though.

Amsoil does it so they can charge their "dealers" more than wholesale thus putting more money in its (Amsoil's) pockets. They may cut out the middle man, but they don't pass that savings on to their "dealers".

People buy it because Amsoil is harder to get and seems more specialized and professional. For whatever reason a lot of people would never put oil they could buy from the auto parts store, Walmart, or the Harley dealer in their bike.

Bottom line...if replacing one good oil with another makes your bike run noticeably better either you're imagining it (most likely the case) or your bike needs work because it's way too sensitive to the oil you put in it.
