Default Of all the dumb *** oil change moves!

I decided to change the oil after a ride this weekend and polish up the bike. It was hot, I was in a hurry and pulled the plug from the bottom of the case not even thinking. As soon as about a ¼ cup of oil came out and it stopped draining I thought to myself you’re a dumb ***. It’s not like I never changed it before. Well I proceeded to pull the OIL drain plug and do it right and now the damn case plug is leaking. Anyone ever just use pipe tape on it or is thread lock better?

I use Loctite 565. It's a thread sealant, not a thread locker.

be sure to not tighten that plug too tight you can crack the case!

clean off the oil from the hole and use red loctite on it. You will have to drain your oil too. Allow 2-3 hours for the red loctite to cure before refillling with oil. Do NOT forget to re-fill engine with oil and then start engine and seize it. Don't laugh...people do it.

You mean a new case? Ouch! Think I'll try my way first. I can't imagine not being able to stop that leak. There is no pressure. Has anyone else ever tried it?

Do you know a GOOD heliarc welder? Drain the Oil, clean the cracked plug boss with Brake clean, weld it up and rechase the threads. Install the plug with LIQUID pipe sealant and USE A TORQUE WRENCH to tighten the plug!!!!!!Extensive use of a torque wrench goes a LONG way in preventing such mishaps, and before anyine disses me for that remark, I learned the hard way! New engine cases and oil pans are $$$$$$$!
