Gas in Oil Tank

Gas in Oil Tank
Need your help.
Bike info: 2005 HD Deluxe
I have gas (yes I said gas) in my oil tank. As I normally check my oil and see if I need to add some oil there are two things that I normally expect. First, a dark dirty oil and second, it would be occasionally low, however this time the tank is full on the dip stick and not as dark/dirty as expected. I have a smell of gas on the dip-stick. Since I'm an old fart and my sense of smell is not the best I asked three (3) other people to smell my dip-stick (no pun attended). Each one agreed with me they smell gas on the dip-stick and inside the oil tank, by sticking there nose near the fill tube.
I'm totally lost on how gas could get in the oil tank. I'm hoping the oil ring on the piston is not the issue because that is a more expensive job to correct than something that I'm overlooking.
I'll hang up and listen to your comments

The fuel came from an overflowing carburetor.
It went into the intake, into the cylinders, past the rings into the crankcase, where it was mixed with the oil which was returned to the oil tank.
Remove the float bowl, give it a shot of carb cleaner aimed at the needle and seat, and you should be good to go.

You need to do a little more than just give it a shot of carb cleaner. Pull the carb and clen the seat and needle, then change the oil asap. I would change it twice. but only the filter once on the final change. They keep a close eye on your oil.
If left un checked you can and will wash the rings and bearings out.

Those are good comments, however I forgot to mention the bike is fuel injection.
Two more things,
1) One out of maybe 10-15 times when I first start the bike it will fire out the exhaust, when it fires ~I mean fire~ like a gun shot sound. Not out the intake
2) When I ride the bike to work and back it does not run bad, to spitting/sputtering etc.

Slyder, that would be a serious prank. The bike is always in the garage with the door closed.
Update: I just changed the oil (30 minutes ago) and every thing seems to appear fine. I have some oil in a glass jar and will let it sit overnight and see if any oil/gas separation appears.
I'll keep you posted.

Just took a picture of the glass jar with my used oil. The picture is the bottle containing the oil located on my dryer in the garage. I'll give it 24 hours (or longer) to see if any separation appears and give it another "look-ski".

Hmm. If you smell the oil in your car it also has a slight smell of gas. My 07 Custom 883 has the same smell and everyone I know who has a EFI motor has the same slight gas smell.
I believe it is normal, that or all our bikes are effed up lol...........

You could have a leaking fuel injector. Usually you notice the difference in performance. Pull your spark plugs and see if they are sooty or even wet. BTW, do you have any enigne mods or is the enigne stock?

KBFX: The only mod to the bike is a stage one kit.
I just looked at the oil in the glass jar this morning and I see no indication of gas in with the oil which is a GREAT sign.
It just baffles me the oil was not as dark as I would normally expect plus not low on the dip stick, another of the "as-I-would expect".
