500 mile switch to synthetic engine oil ok by consensus
Hi guys, picked my new deluxe up last week and will be ready to do engine oil change in next few days at 500 miles. Intend to switch to Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50.. Is consensus it is ok to switch to syntetic as early as 500 miles, or, should i wait to 1,000 miles or longer for the switch? thanks, miles

You can switch any time, the Screamin eagle bikes come from the factory with it installed
Besides which , if you saw the run that all the new bikes get before they leave the factory, you wouldn't even be concerned so much about breakin.

You might want to take a look at what this guy at Power News Magazine has to say about it.
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
What he has to say makes a lot of sense, especially if you read the whole 5 part article. To be fair, I originally found this link in https://www.hdforums.com/m_65102/tm.htm and there's some information supporting his theories there from Lycoming, manufacturers of aircraft engines.
If you don't want to read the entire series, in a nutshell, he said to wait 'til you have 1,500 miles on the motor to switch to synthetic.

Do it.
I did with no problems on my twin cam and have better peace of mind with synthetic. My mind may be flawed but it's well lubricated.......

What is the consensus on changing over to synthetic on a bike with 9-10k?

I changed to Mobile 1 V-twin 20/50 at 500 miles with NO PROBLEMS. (Just like I have done on all of my vehicles for years with no problems with oil consumption) At 1800 miles the bike still does not burn a drop of oil, and it had not used any when I changed the factory oil out at 500 miles . So much for the "Rings won't seat in with synthetic oils."
I am of the opinion due to much research over the years and seeking out the opinions of many high performance engine builders, any factory engine that has been properly machined with the right clearances from the factory will be just fine even if you want to change out to synthetics from the start. If it was a problem so many engines from the factory would not use synthetics as a factory fill. Don't attempt to tell me that cylinder bores are machined different for synthetic oil. That's BS. Synthetics reduce friction over dino oils, but they are not that much slipperier.
