Default Harley thread on oil cooler?

Seems to me I saw an article in Bagger about a oil cooler that threads on at the oil filter. The filter then attaches to the threaded housing. Anyone seen or used one? I'm leaving for an 8K run in July across the country and am thinkin' I best keep the oil cool. Gets pretty hot in Texas and the Keys!

Doesn't sound like much of a cooler to me- have you considered a standard radiator-style oil cooler from HD or Jagg?

Looks like an improved version of the oil cooler that HD has had for many years. The oil filter block that the oil filter attaches to, is removed. It is replaced, by a new block that has fittings for the hoses that run to the radiator. It sounds like the radiator itself has been changed some but the installation and plumbing is probably still the same. Make sure that you have a 7/16 Allen bit before you start. You will need it to remove and reinstall the threaded piece that the oil filter threads on. There are ways around it but having the right tool is always good.

The forum has many threads both pro and con about oil coolers. My bike like so many others has lots of money lavished on it and an oil cooler seems like cheap insurance to me. We see lots of hot weather here during the summer and I think anything that helps dissipate excessive engine heat is good.

You might try a search on oil coolers; you will find help on the install and as mentioned above and plenty of discussion on them pro and con.

I've got coolers on all my older bikes. Two old tranny coolers actually on my 65 & 66. Never reallyt felt the need for one on my 93 Evo but this frickin' twin cam runs hot! I just wanted to know if anyone has used this HD one. The install is no problem. I've heard they leak where you mate the adapter and was wondering if there's any truth to it.

The spin cover for Oil filter is a waste. Oil temps do not effect engine head temps as much as you may think Only 1 HD has oil cooled heads.
If you want to drop Oil temps at a low cost simple to install then look at this set up I have had it on two Touring bikes.
