Default H. D. Oil Filter and oil

Does anybody know (for sure) if the Harley Davidson oil filter is something special or the same thing I can buy from my aftermarket vender? A guy at the parts counter at my local HD dealer told me that about 3 companys manufactured the oil filters and they were all the same (model specific of course) and sold them to HD and others.
I have always used HD oil filters and oil but $14.95 is a little strong for an oil filter when you can get the same thing in aftermarket, Drag, Custom Chrome, etc. for $5.95 or less.

I know for a fact that Revtec,Honda, and HD are made at the same company because the company is here in my hometown. I have a friend that works there and he says all the oils come from the same place and put in different containers.

Any input appreciated.[sm=patriot.gif]

I think the HD filters are 10 micron.......and that is important. But some people claim Napa filters are just as good. I get my HD filters from Zanotti's HD on line. I think they are $10 for the chrome one.

ditto what KB said. I like Zanotti's. I order a couple of filters and gasket kits...which have all the gaskets and o rings you need to change the fluids.

This would be my concern when buying other brands.
Sure I could go down to Wally World and by a Super Tech oil filter for $1.97,but is this really a good idea?

The HD filter is made by Champion to an HD spec and is a well made filter. Champion makes filters for several other companies including AC, Walmart etc. and will be stanped with an "AA". HD oil is made by Citgo,
