Just picked up a 2002 softail standard and when it comes time to change the oil i was thinking of running Royal Purple. Is anyone running Royal Purple in their bike? Bike has 48K on it and has always used castrol syntec 20/50, just seeing if there would be a difference in changing brands, and if any pros or cons in doing so. Thanks in advance for your input.

 

A 2002 should be Ok. But RP is not an impressive oil for the price. I have seen some pretty poor UOA's on BITOG with the RP 20w50 maxcycle where it sheared out of grade quickly. I would recommend Mobil1Vtwin, Amsoil, Redline or even Syn3 over RP. Autozone should have the M1Vtwin.

Mobil1 makes a 15w50 they sell at Walmart which will be as good as the RP. But both of them shear to a 40w in about 1000 miles.

I use to use Royal Purple Max-Cycle 20W50. I changed to Amsoil and have gotten better results from the lab test that Blackstone send me.
