Just had a 20,000 mile sevice done on my 88. decided to check oil level my self when I got it home. At operating temp its just above add mark. I went with the syn 3. Does this make a differance. My owners manual says it should be at the full mark. Is Harley service department just trying to save themselves some oil? how many qts should an 88 take of syn 3 through out.

 

If it was fully hot with the check I would add some oil to bring it close to the full level on the dip-stick. A higher amount of oil is good for these engines, spreads out what the oil does. Just don't overfill as it will blow off into the intake.
