Hi guys I am running Regular HD oil how many miles do you run before you change your oil? Dealer told me to change after 2000miles...seems a bit premature to me....

When using HD oil and asking a H-D Dealer....I'm surprised they didn't suggest every 1k miles.

they do, when you purchase the "cheaper" banana oil brand.

Oh boy, an oil thread!

But anyway, I change the oil and filter at between 2,500 to 3,000 miles, even when using a good synthetic.

Yeah, it's probably more frequently than necessary, but I don't care. Been using the 2,500 to 3,000 mile schedule for years and years, and I guess old habits are hard to break.

Only costs me about $22.00 to change the oil and filter, and it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling to have fresh oil and a clean filter in the bike...

1k and then every 5k after that as the book says. I was always a 3k changer and it was a hard habit to break but the newer engines and oils are far superior to what we had back in the 70s when I first started driving. Back then you considered yourself lucky if you got 100k out of your cage engine. Now 300k is common. I run syn 20-50 in the bike so I figure it good for at least 5k.

Change HD-360 oil every 2500 miles; nothing wrong with regular oil.

If you ever go synthetic, DO NOT use SYN-3; seriously consider REDLINE products.

All my cars and bikes require oil changes at 5000 miles. I always aim at 2500 miles. If I go a little over and don't change it until 3000 miles, no worries. Oil is cheap. I like to change it freequently. I doubt you'd do any damage going longer, but I just feel better about changing it much earlier than recommended in the manuals.
