Default Is it okay for me to use Mobil 1 15w 50

I know they have a "v-twin oil" but would it be bad for me to use M1 15w 50 automotive oil in my twin cam? Has anyone used it for a long period of time?

Skip has over 100,000 miles using the stuff. I have nearly 5000 on my current ride using it, and 30K on my old bike...I use it, and as often as I change the oil, I don't see the need to spend the extra $3 a quart for the V-twin stuff.

Skip will weigh in on this shortly.

Many use the M1 15/50 in their bikes and it works well. Fact is that most any oil if changed on a routine basis with the proper filter will give you a good long life from your engine. The key is to do it on a regular basis and you should be fine. The advantage to synthetics is better life at higher temps without breaking down as compared to dino oil, it will run a bit cooler in your engine and as far as I am concerned, I run the M1 V Twin because these bikes do run hot and I want all the protection I can get. Cheaper than replacing the engine even at $9 a quart.

After having the 15w-50 and the V-Twin versions analyzed, the biggest difference is in the ampount of certain anti-wear additives. The amounts of these additives in the car version are significantly higher than most other oils, and they actually matter only if you have a problem and lose the oil film between moving parts. In that case the V-Twin version might give you a little more protection. You have to be the one to decide whether the extra $4 - $5 a quart is worth it.

Interesting that this post came up so recently.

Was in Wally World today to get some brake fluid. Noticed that the had a pretty decent price for the 15W-50 Mobile 1, so I figured I would pick some up. As I'm cruising through the rest of the cool stuff in the auto parts...I see the Mobile 1 for motorcycles at $6.88 a quart, only $1.50 more than the car stuff. It was $9.99 at Checker Auto Parts, I double checked the price on the way home.

I won't pay $4.50 more for the motorcycle stuff, but I will pay $1.50 more...so I'll be running the motorcycle stuff for the next 5K miles.

Mac,

Our wallyworld has the same deal on Mobil 1 V-twin at $6.88. They carry both 20W-50 and 10W40. At my last oil change, I used Mobil 1 V-twin and I'd swear it run smoother than with the Amsoil, but that is probably just my imagination. I did order some Redline Shockproof Heavy yesterday and am going to give that a shot in the transmission. We'll see.

I swear that myself and I am not an easy sell, also a bit cooler on the temps. too.

You'll see a difference with the shock proof also, there will be little "fuzz" on the magnet on your next change.

You can order it here and have it shipped to your door if you can't find it locally.

My local Wal-Mart doesn't carry it either but I get mine at Auto Zone.

Have a Great Day!
