dumping my dino oil and will be running amsoil 20w50 in the motor.

the more i read, the more confused i get on what to run in the primary and the tranny.

seems like the consensus on the primary is just to dump the same 20w50 as the motor in there.

anyone run anything different?

and as far as the tranny goes...

should i be running an ATF or amsoil's severe gear?

if it's the latter, what weight...75w90 or 75w110...i think 75w140 is a bit much for ny summers, it doesn't get all that hot here.

I use Valvoline 20W50 motorcycle oil in the primary and Redline Shockproof Heavy in the tranny.
There are many choices my freind.

 

Many use a regular 20w50 in the motor and either 10w40 or maybe a 20w50 in the primary (either should be wet-clutch compatible).

Others use ATF in the primary with good results.



ATF is not recommended in the tranny. But 75wXXX is fine. All the 75w(whatever) will be just fine summer or winter.

Now I am impressed with that many posts since November...but I forgot you guys have winter up there so that gives you more time to post.

ATF in the primary and GEAR OIL in the trans. I use Redline Shock Proof but any gear oil will do.

 

Any type F transmission fluid in primary. 75W/90 dino gear oil (any GL-5) in tranny.

I run Mobil1 Vtwin 20-50 in the engine and primary, 75-140 synthetic gear oil in the transmission.

If it didn't get so hot here, i'd be tempted to run the vtwin in the tranny too.

 

so since i'm dealing with a cooler climate (albeit muggy) do you think i shud go 75w90 or 75w110?
