Default Syn3 oil change?

Oh,this oil thing. Bought my 02 RKC this spring with 6,500 miles on it. At time of purchase dealer serviced the bike and put Syn3 in all holes and said once I went synthetic I could never go back. Got bike home and the engine oil had been over filled and the O rings were shredded and leaked. Knew right then this service dept. would never touch my baby again. Typical dealer story. At 9500 miles I did my 10000 mile service (pre sturgis) and put in Syn3 again. Now I'm finding out Syn3 is not the best thing for my tranny and primary. Wish I would have read this thread earlier. Thinking of switching to Red line 20w-50 in engine and Red line Shock proof heavy in tranny. Any suggestions on the primary ? Mileage is 11500 and close to a engine change, thought I'd change them all again at 12000 and make the switch. Would this be a problem after running Syn3 ? Great site, welcome all advice. Mark

I read and hear a lot of bad reports on syn 3, but what is it causing to have such a bad reputation.

I used Rev-Tec synthetic primary lube, and Rev-Tec synthetic trans lube for a lot of miles. Clutch and trans held up to 45K miles of abuse without complaint.

The primary is not so critical. I use RedLine MTL because I like their products and that is the product from their line-up which they reccd. But thats just me, and if I'm honest with myself I could probably find a much cheaper oil which would do just as good a job in the primary. I suspect that any oil designed for a wet clutch will suffice, even dino oil.

All I would suggest is that when you find an oil you like the look of, confirm with that manufacturer of the oil that they approve the oil for the use you intend.

That's not true on not going back to dino oil. if it were, why would they have blends of dino and syn? Now what is true, let's say you have an older engine with 40 - 50 k miles on it and it has been running dino. Now you change to syn. Syn loosens up deposits and varnish build up around rings and seals. you could start burning oil and develop leaks. In this case I would stay with dino and maintain a good service interval.

I don't like HD Syn3 because it doesn't rate as high as other synthetics and it is made by Citgo. Never have liked Citgo products. MHO

Redline will mix with all synthetics. I am using the redline MTL in my primary and am very satisfied..
