Default Is This Possible?

I own an 06 sporty custom 1200. Before I changed jets, exhaust and air intake i got around 50 mpg. my riding consists of back road cruising 90 percent of the time. I changed oil at the 1000 mile service to HD syn 3 did the mods and my mpg dropped to 42 -44 mpg. Last week at 3500 miles I changed to Amsoil 20-w-50. next full tank was 49 mpg. Can a motor oil do that? I am skeptical about Amsoils claims about fuel mileage and extended drain intervals, but this first check seemed pretty good. What do you guys think?

In 1972 AMSOIL produced the worlds first API approved synthetic motor oil for automotive use. The very first container they used said 25,000 miles or one year. They coined the phrase "Extended Drain Interval." Since that time they have hundreds of millions of miles of test data proving this to be true. It amazes me that after all that time and miles and test data backed by the fact that every other major oil company has followed AMSOILS lead and is now producing Extended Drain Interval synthetic motor oils, folks will still take the word of a Forum Guru, be it automotive or motorcycle, over all that data.

I use AMSOIL in everything I own and, without exception have gotten increased gas mileage. That being said. Any of the top synthetic motor oils will give you improved mileage over petroleum oils. There are many reasons for this that have been covered over and over again on this forum. In a nut shell, The uniform molecular structure of synthetic molecular chains produce less internal friction and generate less heat. Less friction the motor doesn't work as hard and, WaLa, better mileage. You made the right choice in my humble opinion so enjoy your Harley. Put your faith in facts not conjecture.

Didn't mean to **** anybody off. Ride safe.

Thank you for your input. Oil does seem to be a very sensitive subject, I am just trying to learn all I can. If Amsoil is as good as it's claims I'll run it in everything I own.
Eveyones input and opinions are appreciated
Thanks

Absolutely ditto all of the above! I've been through this for years working at bike, automotive and marine dealerships. Well put.

Yep, I agree. Amsoil is good stuff. However, I run Mobil 1 V-twin as it is less expensive and I can get it at Wallyworld. I've run both Amsoil and Mobil 1 and can't tell any difference in how the bike performs.

I get 2 mpg more with synthetic in my Chevy Suburban.......less friction will give you more HP which will give you more mpg.

I have run about three tanks through the sporty and the oil change resaults really do seem to be holing up. ( Around 50 mpg). I put it in the car last week and got about 3 mpg more from it as well. I guess I am an amsoil customer now.
Thanks everyone for their input!!

Have used all Amsoil fluids in my 1 ton truck that is pulling 70% of the time, for over 500,000 miles. Tranny was checked at 419,000 & mechanic couldn't believe the clutches showed little wear. Use it in the bike also, runs great.

You modded the bike and your mileage dropped to 42-44 mpg. Then a little while later it went back to 49. Assuming weather isn't a factor, I'd say you were probably a little throttle happy with your new mods for a little while.

I have ended with the Amsoil product in bike and both cars now. And I am very pleased. I would love to my vehicles get that kind of mileage on them.
