Default Softtail Sportster Custom Build & Softail Oil Tank

This post may not be oil specific but it is all about correctly getting oil to and from the engine.

I have built one of these before but it was several years ago. I have an oil tank that is apparently from a softail but it may not be. It mounts correctly on the back at the battery tray area but it has TWO lower tabs on the bottom front- NOT the single tab that I seem to recollect. Does this mean anything to anyone in regards to year/model?

All indications are that there are supposed to be three oil line spigots or barbs on the bottom front of the oil tank-two of which have riser tubes inside the tank- one for crank/cam case venting and the other for the oil return. The third is, of course, for the oil pump supply/inlet line. There is also a fourth larger barb at the far rear of the inner right side of the tank to which a remote oil drain line connects. The tank that I have DOES NOT have the three connections at the front of the tank- IT HAS ONLY TWO connections that are vent and return lines.

Now, the real question is this. How does the oil inlet/supply line get connected to this tank. It is my presumption that a TEE fitting must be installed in the drain line and the supply line is connected to the TEE. But can anyone confirm this for me?

I would post a pic of the of the first finished bike, the build bike and the tank but I don't know how to shrink pictures to the small size that they allow on here.

Do let me know!
