Now I am worried! Is synthetic really more harm then good in the motor?

I'm sure you could come across some writing on the internet that tells you $hit tastes good too but I wouldn't go out and nibble on some turds just because it said so.

Swithing back and forth between brands IS a bad idea, each brand has is own formula of additives, modifiers and seal swellers. Sludge build up is a minor issue but still possible and seal movement is a real issue. One brand may have less percentage of seal swellers and allowing seals to relax and start leaking.

This is something that was told to me by an oil rep when I worked at a speed shop years ago.

Not sure exactly what you mean??? Amsoil, and Mobil 1 are both great oils. What I mentioned about sticking with the same brand (and this applies to conventional oils as well) is that additive packages don't always mix well from one brand to another.

Also to the guy who spoke about "dinosaur oil"...the word "synthetic" is somewhat misleading in that it is NOT a non petroleum product. In other words...it's made from dinosaurs too. The essential difference between conventional and synthetic oils is the way they are refined (both are made from crude oil). Thanks

False, synthetic oil is a lubricant consisting of chemical compounds which are artificially made (synthesized) from compounds other than crude oil (petroleum).

Not sure exactly, I've heard it might be Sunoco or Citgo.

The issue of bearing skate is real, it is induced by a bearing being too lightly loaded. This is a function of the design engineer at the manufacturer. In every case that I have seen bearing skate, redesign and retrofitting have been the root cause, never a choice in lubrication. I have made a career of industrial rotating equipment reliability, and tribology for what that is worth. I do use synthetic in every engine that I own. Just what little that I know.
