What you are buying is what they have left. I wrote to Mobil and they said that the 5 qt jugs were exclusive to Walmart only and that they no longer bottle 15w50 in the 5 qt jugs. Better buy up what you can.

 

You guys are lucky enough to be able to run the 15w50. I love the northern border states....except for the winters. The 15w50 is too light on the bottom to run way down here in the heat.

It's getting hard to find 15w or 20w "anything" nowadays. Vehicles run such light-weight oils now that 20w50 is almost a thing of the past, unless you go to the parts houses.

 

40 weight is too light for a Harley. 15w50 is fine. I ride in SW Fla 6 months a year and it works fine. The only difference between 15w50 and 20w50 is the startup qualities in cold weather

09049A20:50Castrol, probably 21 years old that came out of a shed of a friend. Pouring it in my old 89 truck and noticed as the quart was almost empty the color of the oil went from light amber to a much streaked darker yellow. Shook the remaining quarts up good. Assumed it was some type of additive or ( ?water--this is how the 90 wt. looks coming out of the lower unit on an outboard I once had?) or maybe they did not get the bones strained out good.? Anyway I email Castrol and they wrote this. Still not sure how old oil it.

There is no shelf life for Castrol engine oil; however we would suggest that
for maximum protection and performance, the product be used within 3 years
of the date of manufacture. Regardless of the storage conditions, moisture
can get into the product via osmosis through the plastic. No partially
filled bottles should ever be used - once open, use or discard.

You can determine the date of manufacture by locating the fill code on the
bottom of the back panel. It is composed of a series of letters and numbers,
with the first five characters being the most important.

For example, if you had Y10001, the 'Y' would represent the plant location
and the five digits '10001' would represent the date of production. The
numbers '10' would represent the last digits of the year (2010) and the
'001' would represent the day of the year, based on 365 calendar days, on
which it was produced (January 1).

 

I lucked out at Walmart today, the lady at the auto service desk rang me up 5 1qt bottles of 15W 50 for the 5qt sale price of $21. Since I just changed last week this will carry me to next summer...

 

Please call Wallmart at headquarters and let them know you are not happy. I did, and got a call from them. I was told they will look into it.

I did call Walmart AND Mobil back when I first posted this. Was told by Walmart that they would no longer carry 15w50 in the 5 QT jugs. Mobil said that those 5 Qt jugs were bottled solely for Walmart therefore they would no longer be packaging it that way. Now It's in every Walmart I go in. Me thinks someone fibbed or they change their minds

I just bought a 5 qt jug of the 15-50 M1 at the local Wallyworld two days ago, about $24.

 

FWIW - I've been checking my local Wally for two months now. I asked about it some time ago and the guy said that it's a 'summer blend', and should be in 'soon' he said. Today I happened to ask another gentleman in Auto, he said that it didn't sell well so Walmart will not stock it.

Sent a note to Mobil. Just curious if they are still bottling the 5qt jugs as nw production?

 

I think you're pushing it with the 15w50 in a Harley...particularly in the hotter climates. I know it's suppose to act like 50 when it gets hot, but mine rattles like he!! when I try it. It sounded like a totally different motor....one that was about to fly apart.
