I've been using Dexron for years with no problems.

I think it depends on a few things. I tried it and the clutch action was fantastic, however the SE comp made horrendous sounds on shutdown. Put the ams 20/50 back in and it got quiet again. Sudden appearance of more shavings on the magnet didn't thrill me much either.

First year I had the bike I tried about a half-dozen different oils in the primary, including the $10-$15/qt boutique stuff, and found nothing that worked better for me than Formula+, so that's all I use now. If I couldn't get F+, I'd go with Rotella HDEO.

Just a thought about ATF and gear and/or chain wear. 4X4s such as SUVs and pick-up trucks (including heavy pick-ups) use ATF in the transfer case where there are gears, chains and sprockets. In some cases that ATF stays in there for the life of the vehicle, oftentimes more than 100,000 miles.

I have no doubt that ATF will do the job well in the primary- some very knowledgeable folks on this site (and other sites as well) have been running it for many years without issue...

I've used ATF in the primary for years. The only down side is the dye they put in it. This is to make leaks easier to find. Yes it works....
I'm not a fan of harleys 20w-50 in all three holes nor their primary/trans oil. It makes my clutch drag on cold mornings and causes a hell of a crash when I put it in first gear.
