What fluid did I drain??
Hey guys, just got done changing oil, tranny fluid and primary chaincase fluid in my 06 springer standard and have a dumb question. Before draining the actual transmission fluid, I took out the wrong plug and don't know what it is and what I drained. It is located on the very bottom of the case, on the right side, just forward of the transmission fill stick. It is a small, round, allen head bolt that was on VERY tight. No o-ring on it either. There was maybe 8-10oz of fluid that came out. Can anyone tell me what I drained and how to possibly fix my dumb mistake? Thanks!!

That was the crankcase sump. THis passage connects the flywheel compartment to where the oil pump scavenges it. The plug blocks off a passage they need to machine when manufacturing it. DO NOT OVERTiGHTEN this plug or you WILL CRACK YOUR CASE. The spec is in the engine section of the manual for the torque.

Hey- thanks alot- much appreciated!! So this is the same as the pipe plug correct? And now that I drained what was there, it will just fill back up with motor oil right? (No need to refill any fluids right?)

Correct - in the manual it is called the pipe plug. Spec is loctite 565 and tighten to 10 lb/ft. Or you can just buy a new plug for cheaper than buying the loctite and it comes with the lockpatch on it.
BTW - the qty you drained is perfect for a motor with no oil return issues. Right on the money. This plug should not ever need to be removed except for some oil system diagnostics or to remove debris during a teardown after a major failure.
