How Many Miles Between Oil Changes?
#11
I have always changed oil between 3000-4000 miles depending on temps, distances on rides, and how dirty the ole dipstick looks. To each his own. Oil and filters are cheaper than a new engine.

Just because they say you can go 5k miles between oil changes doesn't necessarily mean that you should. The reasoning for that is after about 5k miles, your oil has broken down to the point where it may no longer meet the lubrication requirements for the motor. Don't forget, air cooled motors work harder and hotter than liquid cooled motors. The oil is not only a lubricant but it also acts as a coolant, pulling heat from the motor. The more miles you put on the oil, the less effective it is. That being said, it's your bike and you do whatever you want.

I run Amsoil and go 5,000 miles between changes. I agree that Harley recommends that mileage with standard oil, and synthetic oil doesn't break down as fast. It more than holds up for that amount of miles. To each his own, this is what works for many people.

Thanks for the FeedBack. I'm Getting the notion that 5000 Miles is the consensus.. That is Exactly what I am Doing for Oil Changes... I am using Synthetic .... So Will continue on that Schedule.
