New Bike Using Oil

New Bike Using Oil
Ok, my street glide used 1/2 qt of oil in its first 100 miles. The dealer said it may have been 1/2 qt low from the factory and they didnt pick up on it before I took delivery. Ok since then I've been keeping an eye on it. I check it before and after each ride. Now at 650 miles I'm down 1/2 qt. again. It is not burning it and I do have an idea it may be "sumping" from what I have read here in the forums, but the bike runs really good and easily revs past 4500 rpm. I guess what I'm asking, has anyone else used oil in the first 5 or 6 hundred miles and there wasnt any problems? It seems the more miles I'm putting on it the less oil its using. I just drained the oil and measured the amount I got out, its 125ozs or 3.90 qts so i know it isnt overfilled and a quart has gone somewhere. I appreciate your comments on this.............BG

RE: New Bike Using Oil
I saw very similar results. At 340 miles I noticed I was down a 1/2 quart so I topped it. After the 1k service I was down another 1/2 quart at 2400 miles then topped it. I'm now at 4600 miles and I'm just now down about 1/4 of a quart. At this rate I'm going to assume after the 5k service I should not use much oil at all. I've also noticed that I've increased my miles per gallon. At first I was only getting about 36. I now average about 42 and if I baby it can get about 45. It's true that these TC's get better when they are fully broken in. Hope this helps. Oh ya, I have an 06 RKS.

RE: New Bike Using Oil
I am glad I saw this post. I have an 06 roadglide and have used a little over a quart in 2500 miles (from the 1K service to 3500). I was concerned because the plugs look fine, no smoke out of the exhaust, and no leaks. I had Syn 3 from the dealer in it and will change to Mobile 1 this weekend. None of my other HD's used oil like this and was just wondering if anybody else was experiencing this issue. Thanks,

RE: New Bike Using Oil
They are supposedly having problems with valve guides/seals with some of the '06 models. Have heard some say that if you go in to the dealer and complain about excessive oil use, they will upgrade the guides/seals with very little resistance. Just hearsay, mine has never used any, and hope the new one does not as well...

RE: New Bike Using Oil
Yup, my 06 Low Rider used 1 quart in the first 1000 miles. Had the dealer put Syn3 in the crankcase at the 1000 mile service. Seems to still be using oil. After 400 miles the dipstick level has gone down to marks. Don't know how much oil is represented by each mark on the dipstick. Anybody out there know? Yes, this is beginning to cause me concern.
