Yellowish substance in oil...
I just changed all my fluids in my Dyna yesterday. When I took off oil filler cap to add oil back into the engine, I noticed a yellowish fluid on the dipstick. It had the consistency of oil, but way off color. So I looked down into the filler hole and noticed some build up of it around the edges that was about the consistency of toothpaste almost. Any ideas on what this would be?? I make a lot of short trips on my bike. Could this be caused from that? Also, when I changed my fluids last time i switched to all Amsoil synthetics, but in between then Harley changed my oil when they replaced the starter and used regular HD oil and filter instead of Amsoil....dont know if that would have anything to do with it or not. Any ideas?

Sounds like condensation. This water vapor mixes with the oil mist and forms a off whit paste. Short trips in cooler weather are most likely the cause since the oil never gets hot enough to burn the moisture out.

Yep, sounds like condensation and other contaminents from short tripping. No big deal, just ride it a little longer when you can or change the oil more often...My Ironhead gets mostly short trips around town. It will spit that crap outta the crankcase breather when the oil after a while.

While keeping the future rides longer.
During the colder seasons, leave it alone (unless you plan on a long cold ride). No winter starting "just for grins".
