I have been using amsoil for the last 20k miles, but might switch to a popular 15/50 wt syn oil. I like to be able to let the motor get real hot and not worry that I cooked the oil. I personally don't like changing the oil, I would rather ride. 5 k is when Harley says to change the oil, and that's when I do it.I do ride thru out the winter and have been thinking of running hdeo 15/40 as harley says when the temp is under 40 degrees, that a 10/40 wt oil is what you should use. at that point motor heat is not a worry. Let me know at what dealer you get $4 a qt oil so the next time I'm in Wimberly I can stock up.,,

My mistake, I only get the filter at the dealer and the oil I get at Autozone for $4. I had been using the HD 360 but then I did try synthetic oil for two OCI's and the valve train noise was just something I wasnt willing to live with.I currently have M1 v twin in there and its due to be changed so i will be switching to the Valvoline MC oil this time, I had used this before and it runs nice and quite. Its a better choice over the HD360 and a couple of bucks cheaper. The 15/40 would be a good choice if you have real cold winters and are will to ride in it, Down here in TX we dont have much winter to speek of so I too ride year round and the 20/50 dont get too thick for cold starts.

I usually run 15w40 Rotella in the winter and 20w50 HD360 in the summer+ I have an oil cooler so I don't worry about it much. I got curious and used Syn3 the last oil change and while it seems to work I did notice some top end noise and did not notice the bike running any cooler or better gas mileage so I won't be bothering with it again. I could actually get by running 15w40 for about 9 months out of the year cause it just don't get that hot here.
