engine sludge
Wouldn’t it be better to change the oil after storage when all the oil is in the pan – without warming the engine? Wouldn’t all the dirt head right back into the engine compartment if I start it up?

RE: engine sludge
If the oil is cold because the bike has been sitting, then the sediment normally suspended in the oil will have settled to the bottom of the oil tank. While some of it will come out when you drain, much of it will cling to the bottom. By starting the engine and getting the oil circulating, the crap will again get suspended in the oil. Then immediately draining it brings the stuff out with the oil before it has a chance to settle out of suspension.
