Changing the oil in my 95 Electra Glide. Using Syn 3 20/50. Any safety suggestions I need to know? Thanks for any info.

 

Torque wrench, service manual, some kind of thread sealer for the drain plugs, service manual,

Some replace all gaskets and o-rings some reuse them.....choice is yours.

Use a gear lube in trans.

use AMSOIL ,MOBIL 1, ROYAL PURPLE OR RED LINE. sYN 3 IS NOT A GOOD OIL.

 

Why is Syn 3 not a good oil? HD told me this would be the best to use for my bike. Interested in knowing....Thanks for any info.

 

It's not a full synthetic oil......but it costs about the same as full synthetic. If your gonna pay the $ why not put a full synthetic in your bike.

It's ok for your crank and primary.....just doesn't measure up in the tranny.

Choice is yours, we've all got our opinions. Run what ever you feel comfortable with.

 

Syn 3 is a good oil. It is Group III synthetic oil, brewed to HD's specs by Citgo. But, there are better oils available at a lower price.

 

Suggestions????? Pour that syn3 out, and get some real oil. Amsoil, Mobil 1, Redline, Belray...anything but syn3......your scoot will thank you for it!

I made the mistake of putting Syn 3 in at the 1000 mile. Worst thing I ever did to a motorcycle. I had noise coming from the top end like BB's in a prince albert can. The transmission shifted completely different. Even chattered going in to first.

Dealer told me that was normal for a Twin Cam running syn 3.

Pulled the syn 3 and put Mobile V-Twin in the engine and primary, and Mobile synthetic 75/90 gear lube.

Things went back to normal.

Harley will tell you that of course. According to them nothing is acceptable except Harley fluids.

 

Sync3 is death to a tranny..period..not much better in a motor or primary. Mobil1..Redline Shockproof..Formula+ ...best bet....imo.

 

wow, im blown away with this. Sorry to sound like a amateur with this but this is how I learn. I asked the people at the parts desk what the best for my bike was, told them it's a 95 EG with 33K, and they said that syn 3 was the best for engine and tranny. Im considering getting my money back and choosing one of these others you all have mentioned. Thanks guys for the info, I need whatever's best for a 11 year old bike if you know what I mean.
