Oil syn vs hd 360
I have a 03 roadking with 40 k on it I have been running hd 20-50 ever since it was new I have read all the threads and have decided to try the mobil 1 15-50 car oil. I can get this at walmart for 6 buck a quart and the 20-50 v-mobil is 11 buck a quart still going to run the hd filter,my question is I have ran 2500 to 3000 on hd oil is it ok to run 5 k on the mobil 1. Does anyone see a problem doing this.

The 96 engines run hot. Synthetic's resist shearing far better than dino. As engine temperatures rise and RPM's increase, the film of oil between moving parts can become extremely thin (molecule). Oil breakdown at this point results in excessive wear and reduced engine life. In hotter climes, DP of AIM recommends coolers (Jagg-turbolator) in addition to syn.

When I bought my '03 ultra the po had used hd 360 since new. I thought the motor ran and sounded just they way it should. So when it needed to be changed I went to mobil1 v-twin. first thing I noticed was alot more top end noise when hot. Next change I tried Amsoil. same thing. next Mobil 1 15-50 guess what ? same thing. synthetic oils may give better protection and go longer between changes, but be ready to hear things working in there. But if you don't have a windshield, and run louder then stock pipes you may not have the same experience. To say synthetics get thinner then what they were meant to be doesn't make sense. 20-50 needs to be 20-50 not just sitting in the bottle, but when its used at temperature in your bike. price should be the deal maker as they all work about the same. I've seen oil for $3 a qt that will work fine in a bike and I've seen Mobil1 v-twin being sold by me for $14,95 per qt. If you could get 5 times the use and protection for $15 a qt , well that would be a deal and I haven't seen any oil for a bike that says to use it that long. I've used mineral oil in all my cars up until a few years ago and have run most of them up to and over 200k miles without problems and expect syn oil will do the same only difference seems to be their cost. This has been my experience with synthetic oil your may vary.,,
