Oil Quanity
Service Manual saids 3.5 quarts of oil in the engine. My friend says he always just uses 4 quarts. Any bad effects of having .5 quart too much oil in the crank? Who uses 4 quarts and who uses less?

My '08 will spit oil into the air cleaner until the hot level drops to about mid dipstick. So now I just fill hot to that level and eliminate the oil mess...

Service manual for the 09 says 3.5 quarts (initially). The maintenance specifications for the 09's (as in years past) state 4 quarts. You will be fine with 4 quarts. However, as others stated you risk some blowby. I always run 3.5-3.8 quarts to lessen the chance.

Many guys on here dump in 4 qts and call it good. Of course there are a few who like getting an oil bath because it is probably the only bath they get every once in a while....

So I had this long saga on the oil, fixed a few problems did an oil change put in 3.8 qts in and came off some traffic and hammered it of a stop sign after sitting and blew oil all over my brother and his bike (good thing it was a rental) I have had this happen 2 other times.
The problem I have is I am not sure where Happy is with my bike since I had a consistent leak until recently. I pulled the rear plug and it had a lot of oil but I think the breather is the cause. I am going to reroute the breather today finally as time has not allowed sooner.
We shall see what happens? How much is normal on the breather venting oil??
