Default Conventional Oil or Synthetic?

I have an 02 Roadking FLHRI with 22,000 miles. I am wondering if it would be a good time to switch to synthetic oil. Can someone share the pro's and con's with me? Thanks in advance...

welcome. do not take this the wrong way but please spend some time to SEARCH about this topic (which has been discussed at length). WARNING: go get your flame suit one before the oldtimers here unload on ya

To answer your question:
Yes, ok to switch to syn now. no CONs except added cost for syn. bottomline: immaterial if dyno or syn as long as you keep a regular oil change schedule (no more than 5K miles)

I could type for a hr and still not have enough info for your answer, but if you would just type the same ? in this forum or even a google search you could read for hrs, and learn a lot.

bottom line is syn goes a little longer, cools a little better, but makes a little more lifter noise. cost is about 2x.
U can switch, anytime after 1k, some say even 500mile so thats no worry for U.
if U have leaks it will leak more..
pretty much it in a nutshell..

I have heard that switching to syn could cause potential oil leaks. Currently I have none.

Synthetic oil will not cause leaks. But it will find any weak spots or voids in gaskets and will scrub off sludge deposits that may be plugging a leak. With an 02 you should be ok.

Agree, if you currenlty have a leak, it will not get better and chances are it will get worse. Maybe look at fixing that before making the switch.

I use a Synthetic Blend Valvoline 20W50, which I've had very good results. Temperture is between 200 and 230, and engine is much quieter than the Syn 3 that was in there before.
