That gear lube study caught my attention. Particularly this line:

"Using gear lube
that is too thick, however, has disadvantages. Thicker oils are more difficult to circulate, particularly in cold temperatures,
and wear protection can be sacrificed".

I switched to 75-140 some time ago and it has improved my tranny performance but now I'm wondering if it being heavier than the 20-50 recommended is increasing the tranny wear.

Any thoughts?

Not to worry; the 75w-140 roughly corresponds to between 10w-60+ through 20w-60+. Cold weather you are at or below the 20w-50 viscosity.

Just went with Belray 80-140 gear lube in tranny and like it a lot better than the Syn3, then Fromula+. all three were suggested by dealer.
now have syn3 in motor. formula+ primary, belray in tranny...
