But not your regular oil question. A friend of mine bought a used 2004 XL1200C from a private owner. Is there any way to tell if the oil in it is regular or synthetic. He ask me and I have no idea. Thought maybe someone might know if there is a way to tell.

 

Ask the seller? and maybe ask to see any paperwork... ie bill for the OC.... but then again, I don't believe what I'm told anyway, and would be changing all the oil just because

 

Agreed. Just tell him to change both fluids to new with a new filter and don't worry about it.

 

only thing I can think of is to send a sample to a independent testing lab.

 

Syn smells like coconut oil, Dino smell like, well dino oil, Formula+ for trans/primary smells like sulphur.

 

Who cares??? Change it.
