Down a quart - What's up?

My oil light comes on yesterday. I check & sure enough I am down a quart. What’s up? I have a 05 King. Did the 1000 mile check and only have 2500 on it now. Should I be burning oil like this?

I thought the oil light was for oil pressure, below 3 lbs is comes on.

I can't offer any help, but it does sound like you've got something you need to have checked.

Good luck.

Could be a couple of things. Wet sumping, dealer shorted you a quart of oil at the 1000, valve seals are leaking....sounds like the valve seals to me. Do a search on the valve seals here as there are several threads and there might be a recall on your motor. But NO you should not be using that much oil.

I would do an oil change (or at least top off and check hot)to rule out the dealer shorting you a quart and see if you use more oil again after you are certain it's full to the correct level. JMO

I would say refill and check. Yor dealer probably shorted you a 1/2 a qt and you went through a 1/2 a qt.

Same problem on my 05 Heritage couple of weeks ago and it took a full litre after 1700 miles from the last service. Not sure wether the Dealer short changed me or its a valve stem oil seal problem. I have checked the level 72 hours after topping it up without running the motor so I am convinced that its not wet sumping I will monitor it until its next service and if its low will insist that the valve seals are sorted.

good luck

Guys: There is a thread about valve seals on 05's and early 06's in here somewhere. I do believe there was a recall.

So I added a qt. Now a week or so. Check her and she is still holding. Maybe its normal.

Run some highway miles on it and see if it uses oil. Could just be sloppy service at the dealer but do this before your warranty runs out.

half quart each . Every seven customer is more profit because you already paid for his oil. half X 6= 3 whole quarts. plus you by oil to top it off. get the picture.

Yeah, but I check mine in the parking lot before I leave the dealer. I even do that with my truck. You can't believe how many times you get shorted.
