Rick - it was just a word of caution, and you should always watch your oil to see if anything "interesting" comes out... a buddy in high school had a chipped off part of a nut come out in his oil change. The look on his face was priceless But I wasn't trying to say the oil might not work - just saying to keep in mind that you should always be watching the oil when you do an oil change.

Skippy - sounds interesting that he used 15W-40.... what part of the country is this? The water cooled metric probably runs a little cooler than the V Twins... but if it works fine in those for years, why not a Harley? Hate to knock on the factory - but the bar and shield doesn't always mean its worth what your paying for it.

Think I'm going to try and find something around the 50W diesel oil when I get home to run in my bike, something to help hold off against the heat. Anyone from the South have any thoughts on this?

Hi Swede, I'm thinking about using mobil delvac 5-40w that I already use in my vw jetta deisel. For my tc88 oil. What did you mean by "watch out for metal flakes in the oil after next change?" Was that just a caution statement? Thanks Rickglide

Guys......the TC88 engnie cools the pistons by squirting oil on them from underneath and is a KILLER of motor oil. The use of a 40 weight oil will work but will shear down to 30 or even 20 weight pretty quickly. Air cooled MC engines like the TC88 require a very robust oil in them to reduce wear and heat damage caused by friction. Bottom line: You paid a lot of $$ for a nice motorcycle....don't screw the motor using cheap oil where there are group III, IV, and V synthetics out there that will do a better job and give you better performance for $20 more per change. Just my $.02
