I use Valvoline 20w50 in my primary all the time (jaso approved). Plus, I used it to break in my 08 Ultra. I changed the oil 4 times the 1st 1500 miles and I used Valoline 20w50 during that break in time frame. If for some reason I quit using syn in my motor and went back to dino oil. I would use Valoline 20W50 and change it out every 2500-300 miles. It is good oil and the price makes it that much sweeter. Go for it.

That poster is a buddy of mine. He hauls petrol for a living and is overly consumed with the performance of motor oil. LOL. If he says an oil is good, it is good because he's used it and had it lab tested over a period of time.....I actually forgot that he was using Valvoline until I read that link.

 

He sure puts allot of effort and money into his info in the form of his UOA's that he posts. He has posted some good UOA's with Havoline 20w50 that was run in a EVO I believe. Food for thought.

 

When my Sloptail Evo started spewing oil out the crack in the left case I started running the Havoline because of those UOAs Fuelankerman posted on BITOG. I was running the latest version of the Mobil1 15w-50 oil in the Nightster but was not happy with the viscosity loss, and dumped a load of Valvoline VR1 into it last night, again because of the UOAs he posted.

 

Did you mix it with the Syn, or go all VR 1? I think I'll try it next oil change. I have been using the M1 V twin, and have seen some UOA's showing that it begins to thicken after 3000 mi. I don't like to pay more than I have to for good oil.

 

Went with all VR1.

 

hello all.....new to the forums, but i had to inteject my opinions on this issue. ive bee riding harleys all of my life, and including the 2004 ultra classic electra glide i just recently picked up, ive owned a total of 29 HD street bikes, from knuckleheads to twin cams and everything in between (including 3 or 4 2 stroke HD dirt bikes). i live in a mountain community in northern california at around 4000ft. i am the president of a 3 piece motorcycle club chapter thats pretty spread out so i put alot of miles on ( almost 29,000 this year alone from the end of febuary to exactly the 3rd of november) and ride pretty much year round in all conditions (except whe it starts snowing and icing over up here). its a 150 mile round trip just to go shopping for us (down in redding california). where im located ( in a valley) on a daily ride our elevation varies quite a bit (one minute your at around 4000ft, then drop down to 2000, then up to 3000,ect...you get the idea) with some pretty nasty grades to climb. we ride from an average summertime temp in my area of around 85 degrees down into the valley to redding where its 115 degrees, and then have to ride around in stop and go traffic, then pull those same grades,ect headed back home. years ago, i switched my bikes over to valvoline VR1 racing oil ( straight 50 in the summer, 20/50 in the winter) and never looked back. ive never read any 'reports" or anything on it, so i havent a clue what they say, but i can tell yu from my wn experience that it is the only oil ive ever used in my bikes that doesnt break down under high heat and heavy load. it retains its viscosity under a plethora of different coditions. i change my oil (just to be safe) every 2000 miles on all of my bikes, but have ran it as high as 5000 miles without changing it, and have never had any issues. on the other hand, i did one time try harleys 20/50 synthetic (i was in redding and had a certificate for a free oil change at redding HD) and i can tell you from experience that under the conditions that i ride, the synthetic was the WORST oil i had ever had in my bike. by the time i got 1/3rd of the way home, the bike just didnt sound normal so i pulled over to check it out. sitting still running after pulling the hills,ect do comming and going up here, my bikes motor sounded like a box of rocks full of rattles,ect. i shut her down ( only 9,000 on a freshly rebuild evolution engine in a 1998 fatboy) and checked the oil and it was as thin as water. i stopped by napa on the way home and bought a new filter for the bike and my usual VR1, got the bike home, changed the oil, everything went back to normal and i have never looked back. point is, theres no substitute for experience. ive used amsoil, redline,harley, royal purple and just about everything in between and in the conditions i ride, high heat, major loads,ect id pick the VR1 racing il 10 out of 10 times and never look back....think about it......its MADE for high hard use........form your ow opinions, but personally, ill never buy anything other than the VR1 for any of my bikes.
