Question Low oil pressure

06 ultra classic 3,000 miles. when it gets to highway temp (riding about 20 miles) at idle the oil pressure is very low, almost reading nothing on the gage. Is this normal? is the pump high volume, with low pressure when it's at operating temp's.

Oil pressure will naturally drop when it increases in temp but as long as have some pressure at idle should be okay.. If truly in doubt get this checked...

When it's warmed up on a hot day, your oil pressure will read about 10 at idle, 30 at highway speed.

If you come up to the recommended 30+ at 2k rpm I would not worry too much about it unless it is so low the lifters won't stay pumped up at idle. If low even when cruising a look at the pump maybe worth while and a runout check on the pinion while at it.

Check it with an external oil pressure guage. You sending unit may be malfunctioning. The biggest indicator you have an oil pressure issue will be engine top end clatter. You may also have a weak bypass valve spring.

I'm guessing here but I suspect the idiot light sendor is in the area of 2-3 lbs when the light will come on. Best solution is to check with a mechanical gauge and see what you really have. If normal with this, your sender is bad, or even the gauge itself
