Redline, Amsoil or Mobil V Twin, Which will make my engine quieter
#11
I just changed mine today from the syn3 to amsoil and noticed that there was alot less noise in the top end, right now I am in the testing phase to see if I can get better mileage and quit down the noise, so far so good. Besides from the reports that I have read syn3 is junk.

I've been running Red Line 20W50 in my 07 Deuce since 1K miles. Good stuff:

Bike runs like a champ. I think I'm going with 20W60 next time since it's a little warm down here in FL.

I wrote in a previous post, been runnin' dino oil in the bikes for 35+ years. Switched the '08 RK to Amsoil a few days ago, took her for a ride, first thing I said when I came home was, "WOW! All the valve train noise is gone". Ok, I can still hear it, but it is so faint, I need to pay attention to hear it. I'm a skeptic, but I was sold on this, it definitely made a difference.

I had the staealership put AMSOIL in my primary, crankcase and tranny on Thursday, and I can tell a distinct difference in smoother shifting, no "clunking", I can actually find neutral and either my new Vance & Hines LONGSHOTS are too noisey OR my V-twin is making much less noise!
The '07 DELUXE seems happier in this South Florida HEAT!

Synthetic oils by their nature stay thinner, so they don't muffle as much mechanical noise as dyno oil.
I doubt if you will be able to tell the difference, sound wise between any of the above mentioned synthetic oils.

Here's something I noticed recently. I took a trip from new jersey down to visit my daughter in Raleigh nc. While its mostly highway, when we left in the an the air temp was in the high 50s. The motor sounded real good and quiet.Once we hit Washington dc, the temps we creeping up and the motor started sounding like it was running without oil even tho the pressure gauge was reading 32 psi. It seems to me that Harley must be on to something as far as their recommendation of using straight wt oil depending on the temp. 20/50 wt, while is in the operating range still seems too thin out when the air temp is over 80 degrees. By the way I have been running Amsoil 20/50, and it seems like it thins out allowing the motor to sound like its either too thin, or it's not doin the job. so what I'm thinking of doing is changing to Dino 20/50 for the winter months as heat is not an issue when its 20 degrees out.I'll leave the trans and primary with the syn as their not due for a change yet. Anyone have any thoughts on that.
