Synthetic too slick??

RE: Synthetic too slick??
Sorry about the last post. I can't get the article to cut and paste. When I paste it it won't up load. If anyone wants a copy email me and I will send it to you. It is what a Mobile oil Engineer, who was involved in the development of Mobile 1, has to say about Synthetics and Slipperiness. Email me at skylane19641@mac.com and I will send it. I don't have time to re-type the whole article here.

Says they believe they're too slick resulting in bearing wearout, leaks, etc.

Their point about the sliperiness was that it was so slick that the bearings slid rather than rolled which while possible is highly unlikely. Why else would HD push their syn 3 so heavily since it was introduced in 02?Amsoil,Mobil1 v twin,Royal Purple,Redline and several others are fine synthetics and far superior to conventional oils.Get the whitr papre from the Amsoil website. There are hundreds of articles on it. Ask experienced riders. You would be surprised how techs are so stuck in their ways. One of the best tecs I know took 3 years to accept that the K/N filter was good or that a power commander would work. These guys are more rigid in their thinking han I have ever seen. Ask an engineer at hd and they will praise synthetic. Please remember its primary reason for development was to lubricate the space shuttle back in the sixties because regular oil could not haqndle the temps. Why not make it for everydy cars and really get rich?

If it is too slick there there can not be any wear.
Too slick = less or no friction.
No friction = no wear.
Hard to believe that this one is still around.
Most, if not all, problems HD experiences with the Twinkie engines are self-induced due to engineering shortcuts designed to make it less expensive to produce the things.

By the way, the part about causing excessive clutch slipping was also mentioned. Again, I am making no comments about the validity of any of this. As I said, I was planning on switching completely to syn at the 1000 mile mark.

It's true!!!! S&S and Perewitz suggest dino until 10,000 miles and even there after!!! Perewitz Customs used to have a chrome "MOBIL 1" badge on all their engines-No more. Call em, they even recommend running Dino after break in. No BS!!!
