I ride the shovel in the winter also, any dont want to change the oil for the season. I know redline makes 20w-60, but I have a chain oiler and really dont want to dump $10 oil on a chain and on the ground.  \\;

I'll give a "BUMP" to wbogley's inquirey ...
I just came from the VALVOLINE website www.valvoline.com
And in the 20W50 4-stroke MOTORCYCLE Oil information, it states very plainly
"Will NOT void your motorcycle WARRANTY"
and
VV743 = quart 4-Stroke Motor Oil
Product Specs: \\; Using Valvoline Motorcycle Oils will not void the manufacturer's warranty.
Meets or exceeds API SF/SG/SJ
Meets JASO MA specifications
Does anyone have the SPECIFICATIONS of the Genuine H-D SAE 20W50 "360" motorcycle oil?
I can't beLIEve that Harley-Davidson can put their oil out on the market WITHOUT listing the API / JASO specs ... unconscionable
Thx,

The Harley oil specs are in the owners manual. They are the same as any HDEO diesel oil with the API CF/CJ ratings. Not the automotive SM ratings.

Hey KBFXDLI,
I just read my 1985 FXRP owners manual and my 1995 FXD DYNA Convertible owners manual, from cover to cover, there is not ONE mention of the OIL SPECs ... (I did get a HOOT out of the 20W50 H-D Oil being referred to H-D "240" ... it has advanced to H-D "360" today :-)
No reference to the API or the JASO specifications
Anybody KNOW these specs for a 1340 cc EVOLUTION engine?
Thx

In my OM it talks about recommended weights and API specs. They recommend 20w50 first. Probably not a big deal in 1995 because of all the automotive energy conserving oils out today which do not meet the MC specs for an air cooled engine. The Valvoline should work ok but I would not run it past 3000 miles. You can get equal service out of Mobil Delvac 15w40, Shell Rotella 15w40 or Delo 400 15w40 which are as inexpensive. Remember the TC88 &\\; 96 engines run a lot hotter than the evo's do which is why the specs are so important. Give the Valvoline a try and let us know.

Will Do,
I will give the VALVOLINE (my favorite cager oil) 4-Stroke, Motorcycle, 20W50 oil a try and report back
This ALL came to a head last week before the A.B.A.T.E. of Indiana BOOGIE ... when I bought 3 Quarts of the Dinosaur H-D 20W50 "360" engine oil and a quart of PRIMARY lube - All the H-D petroleum products took an unusually LARGE price increase, the week before
$5.50 / Quart = 20W50 conventional engine oil
$9.00 / Quart = Primary and Transmission Lube
I am just exploring the "OPTIONS"

My shovel runs hotter then a Evo or TC. \\; My oil temp is around 250 degress. \\; On the old bikes running conventional the service manual says not to run them longer the 2500 miles before changes.
