I would still change at the recommended intervals. I know it is supposed to last longer but its such a small quantity why not change it? Also, you might avoid warranty issues.

While the above may true..........changing ALL THREE lubricants at least once a year (regardless of mileage) is exceptionally cheap insurance for a machine that costs $ 20K. I can purchase my Mobil1 VT, Redline SP, HD 5 micron filter, O-rings & primary gasket for under $100.00 .

Of course oil changes are ALWAYS mileage contingent.........I change mine every 3k.

Just my unsolicited $ .02 !!!

For 2008, these are the service intervals listed in the owner's manual, regardless of fluid type, synthetic or dino.

No matter if you run synthetic or dino....... oil and filter changes are STILL the absolute cheapest insurance for your baby that you can provide.
And, whatever you do, don't neglect the air filter in your change. An intake system that is restricted by dirt/debris, or a hole/tear in your filter can allow contaminates to enterthe cylinders and wipe out an engine in an amazingly short period of time.

Exactly.

Some here say change more frequently, and you won't hurt it by doing so but it is not necessary or helpful. The exceptionsare if you ride in extremely dusty conditions or do a lot of idling, or other than "normal" riding.

I have been riding Harleys for over thirty years and probably several hundred thousand miles and I have always pretty much followed the moco recommendations and used Harley oil without ever having an engine or transmission problem.
