WIX # 51348 for the filter - black and is about $5.00 bucks
Royal Purple 20/50 for engine and primary
Royal Purple 75/90 for the tranny.
I spent alot of time on slow escorts, about 20-30 mph in TEXAS HEAT. I have 35,000 miles on my bike and it runs great. I have used the HD oil and the bike would get hot alot easier and hit the cool down safety slow idle, whatever its called. It dont do trhat with the Royal Purple oil. thats just my .2 cents

RE: What Brand Oil Filter Do You Use
Has anyone tested for the duration of filter bypass with the different micron ratings?
If anyone has a harley oil cooler, you could install the "T" fitting (Part # 126165-07) in line and hook up an oil pressure guage in place of the temp guage. Once installed, you could determine if you spent more time bypassing the filter (no filtration) with a 5 micron as opposed to a 30 micron filter.
The point is (I think) , If you send oil through an engine several times while the engine is bypassed (5 micron with no filtration) as opposed to sending the oil several times while the engine is not bypassed (30 micron with filtration) which filter is protecting your engine the best? I hope you answered 30 micron.
I think everyone agrees that most wear occurs at start up. Unfortunately, this is also when most filter bypassing occurs.
The correct answer to "What Brand Oil Filter" may just be two brands. One for start up and one for operating at normal temp. But it don't end there....you still have to find the filter that bypasses at the pressure that the Harley engineers intended for your model or you could find yourself not filtering nothing.
Of course this is all just speculation because I really don't know anything about it.

RE: What Brand Oil Filter Do You Use
I saw a listing in my Wally-world for the fram filter but they didn't have it. Went to about 6 different auto parts places who didn't have it and finally the last one found a Wix number and said he could have it by noon tommorrow. Costs about $10 down here in D/FW, Texas. Mine is chrome so I don't know how this is gonna work out till I pick it up. Now my dumb question is where is the drain on a 98 Lowrider? Just bought the bike 1.5 months ago and being my first H.D., I don't know a whole lot about them. I already put a little over 2000 miles on it so I figure it was time to change it. Thanks.

Interesting that H-D are the overwhelming choice. Why? Can't be cost. What else, availability?

Would you bet your motor on someone else?
Ifanother brand clogs, will it go into bypass??
