KN-171-c is the motorcycle chrome filter, and the B is black. The engineer at K&N told me the automotive HP-1002 is the same thing, but white. I would run the longer 1009 if it weren't for than crank position sensor. Any automotive store has them and you can peel the sticker and paint it black. (or spray chrome) chrome does hold the heat in. 10 micron single pass. The 10 micron is needed on the twin-cam motor because of all the intricate little oil passages. I also run Royal Purple oil. It tests even better than Amsoil.

I use the Drag Specialties magnetic oil filter on both of my Harley's, part#DS275188, but that's just my preference.Typesand brands of filters are just as subjective in Harley forums as is the type of fluidswe run in our bikes. What'sequally important asan adequateoil filter is that the oiland filter gets changed as per your owner's manualat the recommended intervals (or earlier). I know people who only change their filterson every other oil change but I change my filterat each oil change. It's just another $12.00 and to me that's worth the added protection and peace of mind!

You will never get a FL1A to work on the Harley. It simply will never fit. I don't know where you saw it saying it will fit.....but it will not.

If you really want to look at a motorcraft oil filter....look up motorcraft FL793. This one will fit and work on the bike....but why? Even if it was free....I still wouldn't use it on my bike. They are white and ugly. Motorcraft filters are manufactured by Pulurator....and HD filters are manufactured by Pulurator as well. I would really have to see the specifications first.....possibly could be the same filter?

Stick with OEM HD filter or a Wix. Neither one will serve you wrong.

EVOrider....look up near the start of the thread Thudmeister put a link in post 21 or so....it says you can use an FL-1-A on a Sportster.....my bike sits in the back of the department, so I grabbed one from my counter and walked back there to look.....It's WAY to big.....I was thinking more of an FL-400-S might fit.....I don't use chrome filters anyway...I can always paint one of my Motorcraft ones black....or even blue to match my bike's paint! lol

I voted for the HD filter just because I didn't want to wait a week for the K&N filter to come if I ordered it.

I was in Wal-Mart today & saw that fram sells a chrome filter for motorsickles. But I didn't want to look to see of they had one for my HD.
