What Brand Oil Filter Do You Use
#481
I used the Drag Specialties Filter and Shell Rotella 15w40 Motor Oil, engine and gear case in my 2011 Softail Cross Bones 93.
Drag Specialties DS275126 which is a crossover of a K&N 171C by Harley Davidson.
Doesn't your hand book say to use a GOOD Diesel Oil if the Harley Fluid is not available? Mine does, that's why I use Rotella 14w40 a 15000 mile pure oil, non synthetic oil. I use it in my 99 Ford Lightning, 2011 Ford Flex, 2009 John Deer Mower, and 2011 Softail Cross Bones. all run 5000 miles on oil changes.

old question I know but I'm new on this site, it will not void a warranty unless Harley or any other manufacturer "DEMANDS" that you use a certain filter. on top of that if they DEMAND it, they have to provide it free of charge. that was the law back in the day when I managed a jiffy lube. it was posted on the public notice board in the lobby.

There is no cardboard valve in a Fram Filter.
Fram filters use a rubber anti-drainback valve...
The filter caps are paper, but what the hell, almost every oil filter element is paper...

I believe the 5 micron is TOO restrictive ! I would imagine S&S has a Great filter ! My favorite is AMSOIL's oil filters, with the Abram Tank, Nano Fiber Technology ! Fram suck, K&N are made in Thailand, I'm not buying a filter because it has a nut, you'd have to be a nut, not to wonder, what's inside ! These are old specs; Bypass opening pressure; Twin Cam, H-D 10psi, AMSOIL12psi, & K&N 14psi. There are NO rules or regulations for oil filters, somebody's 10 micron, is another company's 30 micron, Buyer Beware !

I've used only Amsoil filters and oil for the last 12 years. I'll be switching to Schaeffer 707 oil as soon as I use up what I have, since it is not wet clutch compatible. Don't need wet clutch compatible oil in a Harley engine. That allows more friction reducing zinc additive. Staying with Amsoil filters, though.
Correction: New bikes come with Harley oil and filters, so I have used those too.

K&N or Harley. Chrome or black. Anybody using thr re-usable filters out ther? What are your thoughts/findings in comparing the merits of one as opposed to standard disposable? How do you clean it without making a mess? Wash oil out and it goes where? Just wondering
