Purolator motorcycle oil filters are made in China...

To "Pure Oil Later's" specifications. Not everything made in China is crap you know. I cut every filter open to keep and eye on my engines internals, and usually spread the medium out.

Too many things coming from China are low quality, they have a habit of making something in spec, but once they get into production the spec goes out the window...

And you may be absolutely right in this case too my friend...but I'll take my chances on those rather than the failure-prone Frams and other paper medias. Syn rocks. Just my choice; ORMV.
EDIT: I used to go 3k on dino and 5-7k on syn oil...but nowadays I LOOK at the oil when checking and consider mileage vs. color. If I deem it's getting questionable, I'll do one of two things:
Dino oil: change oil
Syn oil: change filter
I'm talking about BEFORE change time. This way I have "clean" oil in there regardless, without spending on both. Thus far, it makes good sense to me and can't hurt.
She never sees the dark caramel stuff very long at all.

What non-metalic metals that flow through the oil filter and are not trapped will not harm the engine for they are soft metals. It's the hard steel particles that destroy the engine and that is what the magnet on the filter catches. Think of soft copper and bronze and aluminum verses ball bearing steel. The steel will not deform and will scratch and score surfaces. Soft metals will smear, compress and even bond to metal to increase tolerances. There is a oil additive that actually restores old engines by introducing these soft metals to fill the imperfections and scratches in working metal parts. We are talking tiny particles. Of course, if a huge chunk of aluminum were to break away and get into some gears engine destruction will occur.

“We don’t use 5 micron for efficiency numbers. The number that is used in the industry is 20 or 25 micron. At one time Harley was saying don’t use any filter that doesn’t filter down to 5 micron but that statement has been pulled. KN-171 meets or exceeds the standards for Harley motorcycles.”
I can tell you that the efficiency for KN-171 is 96.8% when filtering a 20 micron size particle. Hope this helps…
