If we had to worry about chrome oil bags, one heckuvva lot of us would be in deep. The filter may be another story tho; it sits out in front in the wind, so it may be able to shed some heat.
I liked that idea of those cleanable stainless mesh filters with the finned outer casing, but won't run one since they have massively too large passages for a TC.
As an inventor (how many times a month do I say that...) I think we should have something like that outer casing, but with a replaceable synthetic filter to go inside. It seems so obvious to me - and that was done long ago, only the casing wasn't finned. My old '60 Chevy pickup had one. And to top it all, the filter could be cheaper, not having to be built into a can.
Where are all the so-called "engineers" these days? Can you imagine, a $3-4.00 filter that goes into a sort of an oil cooler? I'd be replacing mine every 3k. WAKE UP YOU DORKS!!!

You mean something like this. Been around for years:

Yeah, except that it has no real fins for cooling, so I doubt it's efficacy. Plus, their filter replacement cartridge costs about as much as the filters I've been buying; it would never pay off. I can see why I've never seen one so far.

Not all of us live within ten miles of a dealership. I live 125 miles away. Tack on $40 of gas to get that $10 filter and now you have a $50 filter.

I WAS using Hi-Flo, until the last one I cut open (I usually do this) had two VERY large dark spots inside the casing...a little scraping revealed that they were RUST, no sheet, RUST SPOTS. Evidently the Vietnam humidity gets into their factory.
Not gonna risk theirs any more.
I still have the casing as proof, in case anyone doubts this.

I've split the oil and filter changes...I mean, I was running long on the syn and thot I'd like to just go ahead and make sure it's clean, so put a new filter on it. 1-2k later, I'm changing the oil and ...WHY would I need a filter; this one being new...so I got discombobulated, but can't think of any reason to get combobulated as long as my oil isn't a.) diluted, or b.) polluted - and the filter takes care of that.
I went back to Purolator filters, which I deem are best.

[QUOTE=omaho5;10572135]Filter. I'm supposed to put a filter on it, too ?[/QUOTE I leave the filter the filter off. There seems to be a puddle but aren't Harley's as posed to leak?
