I'd hate to be the sucker who bought that car.

Hey I did the same in my old Camaro when I was younger and it got to the point of leaking a quart every few months. Add a quart, and it's good as new!

gaber6....that's why this guy was a teacher and not a mechanic. This is still common practice with some people....the really stupid people. When you see a 2009 brand new looking Ford smoking out the tail-pipe, you know what they are up to. They are students of the "only change the filer and add a quart" crowd. They will have $4,000 wheels on them and a stereo blasting crap all over the parking lot, but will never perform an oil change.

Amsoil did a study a few years ago. Their conclusion was that both Amsoil(of course!) and Mobil1 filters were the best on the market. I've been using the Mobil filter ever since, no problem.

Well, I did a study this year, and came to the conclusion (for the TC88 engine) that the Purolator MC filter was the best, but those two came next. The bad thing was I had to order them; couldn't find them locally anywhere.

Harley filters have a specific micron size for oil flow. If an aftermarket filter has the same design, then it can be used. Finer micron filters restrict oil flow even if they do filter better. I would want as much oil as possible going through the engine.

HD filters only. They're specked for the engine and made by Champion labs to the specs given to them by HD.

Saving a $1 or 2 with other brands will not make a difference in the long run.

I love these oil and oil-filter threads....they just go on and on and on. I fully believe that a man ought to install what he wants too and make no fuss about it. But, Champion makes other filters that meet the HD OEM specification. There is a letter from Champion here on one of these numerous oil threads across all these forums that states that. Many people out there just hate to give the stealership that extra $3 or $4 for the black one they get over the counter. If I lived close to a dealer I would likely purchase theirs...and do when I am in town and have a reason to go by the stealership. But I also run the others that meet the same spec. if I don't have the HD filter.

My intention was to find something better. I did. No, wasn't much cheaper, but I think just putting any old thing on there is blatantly careless.
