A painted filter will dissipate heat from the oil much better.
Any thoughts?

Laws of physics state your correct. Shiny surface has low emissivity. Black surface has high emissivity. I run the black only.

That is a silly question, I use the K&N of course. Why wouldn't I use a filter that has a nut on the end? Doesn't get any more simple than that! Plus it is a K&N so you cannot question the quality of filtration plus the valve.

k&n filters even though they got the cute little nut spot welded to the bottom are made in china. they carry the k&n name is about all. i use the harley filter. black always. chrome might look cool, when in fact it ain't cause chrome doesn't radiate heat away as well as the black ones. i always sorta look at chrome filters as chroming a toilet. thanks anyway.

Yes, I have one of those. I believe it might be Kuryakin. I'll looking to get rid of it.

Some of the guys on the Ducati forum use them and I use these also on my Monster 900. Appears to be ok.

Also get these as they are easy to get and less expensive than the filters at the dealer.

i have used the black harley filter on my last four harleys. black? of course, it radiates heat better than chrome. and having a chrome oil filter seems to me, sorta like chroming your toilet. in my corvette i no longer use the ac filter though, as the purolator pure one is the better choice in that motor, being all aluminum like a harley. hmm, wonder what micron rating those have. harley filters for me though in my bike. if you change it regularly there should be no issue with it, and they're always available.
